`     FAO MEDALS   


There are basically 7 types of medals issued by FAO  
        1) Ceres Medals
        2) Agricola Medals                                   
        3) World Food Day Medals
        4) Project Medals
        5) Special event Medals
        6) Calendar Medals
        7) Medals not for sale
 
1) Ceres Medals
    The Ceres Medals were first issued in 1971 and are issued to honour women who have contributed to alleviating hunger and poverty. Many have been put on sale over the years to raise funds for FAO projects, but not all. These medals have been produced in a variety of metals and sizes over the years including gold, silver, bronze and aluminum.
 
2) Agricola Medals                                   
     The Agricola Medal series started later and were issued to honour men in the same manner as the Ceres medals for women. These are produced in gold, silver and bronze.
 
3) World Food Day Medals
    In 1981 World Food Day was launched (October 16th) and three special WFD medals were issued. Each year since then a medal has been issued for WFD depicting the theme  for that year. Produced in gold,silver and bronze.
 
4) Project Medals
    From time to time projects such as the the Secna project (set up to eradicate the screwworm) produced medals for donation and sale to raise awareness and funds for the project. Produced in gold,silver and bronze.
 
5) Special event Medals
    Special event medals have been issued over the years to mark specific occassions such as the 0th anniversary of FAO in 1995; the World Food Summit medal in 1996. Produced in gold silver and bronze

 6) Calendar Medals
    Calendar medals were first produced in 1981 and have been produced every year until 2004. Produced in silver and bronze. In 2005 it has been decided not to continue with this series.
 
7) Other - Not for sale. There is one other medal produced by FAO. It is not for sale by us but is donated to staff members who have served the Organization for 25 years.
