WORLD CROWNS
Anguilla  1967 "Liberty" Dollars

For years, this "coin" accepted in numismatic circles.

A number of the pieces illustrated here came from the collection of renown Numismatist Among G. Carter.

Reviewing the story as it is now recounted in "Unusual World Coins" demonstrates that technically KM had no choice but to "oust" this popular piece from the KM catalog.

The Liberty Dollars were authorized by the Anguilla Island Council.  Each
Liberty Dollar was to have been redeemed for 10 U.S. dollars. They countermarking was privately done in San Francisco, CA.

No other country recognize the Provisional Government of Anguilla, so in effect, Krause would be hard-pressed to ascribe an issuing "country", thus, this piece  would not even qualify for NCLT status.

BEWARE OF FAKE Anguilla "Liberty" Dollars  !!!

Beginning approximately 2001, newly issued "Liberty Dollars" have been appearing on eBAY.

The images I've examined are readily distinguished from the 1967 issued pieces, though it is unclear if the issuers are using the orignal die or a freshly prepared one.
